Stumbling into Glory

By Unsorted

20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, that is, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, being understood by what has been made, so that they are without excuse. 21 For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their reasonings, and their senseless hearts were darkened.

— Romans 1:20–21 • NASB

I was out walking the dogs just after a morning twilight sprinkle the other day and found this leaf on the walkway back through our yard, with its velvety hydrophobic underbelly facing skyward to catch and bead the tiny drops of rain into larger droplets. A delightful surprise.

Occasionally, Pastor Kenny and I will share photos of nature and sunsets back and forth, to marvel at the glory of God’s creativity, and when I shared this one, his affirmation for my “eye” and photographic skill kind of caught me off guard; mostly because this image was nearly effortless to capture. It was a gift from God, and I nearly stepped on it.

Sometimes I see a hint of potential in a scene as I’m passing, and it compels me to stop and attend more closely and patiently, and I may struggle for several minutes to find the right angle, the right position, the right composition for an image worth taking home… and sometimes a scene is so perfect that all I need is a moment to catch one single shot.

This was one of the latter… when it feels so wrong to try to shoot it twice… Often I shake my head and stand there in awe for several moments longer than it took to capture it, just so I can absorb and process the sheer beauty.

I’m grateful for every moment where He shows me yet another reminder, no matter how small, that He is the God who created all things, worthy of all our praise.
