In 2006 I was commissioned to design a program booklet commemorating a double artist installation titled In-Between at TRUCK Contemporary Art Gallery in Calgary, Canada, featuring the works of Farheen HaQ and KC Adams. Both artists created a series of works exploring the concept of navigating the tension of an identities influenced and nuanced by the lived experiences of being of mixed race, culture, ethnicity and heritage. The booklet featured articles and essays written by contributors who worked closely with the artists, and my design was an exploration of the concept using a constrained monotone color scheme and repetition of brace (aka “curly bracket”) characters in a purely typographic medium.
